440-acre Quantum & Microelectronics Campus
2025
EOS Mechanical was selected as the mechanical contractor for America’s first utility-scale quantum computing facility, providing ventilation ductwork, equipment, and specialized subcontracts for this groundbreaking project. The company’s proven track record with high-profile, high-pressure projects made them the ideal partner for this first-of-its-kind nationally significant development.
The Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP) represents a historic $1+ billion investment in quantum computing infrastructure on Chicago’s South Side. Located at the former U.S. Steel South Works site at 8080 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, this 440-acre master plan development is being constructed through a public-private partnership between PsiQuantum, the State of Illinois, Cook County, and the City of Chicago. The project is co-developed by Related Midwest and CRG, with Clayco serving as general contractor and Lamar Johnson Collaborative as lead designer.
As the anchor tenant, PsiQuantum will construct and deploy America’s first million-qubit scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer at this location. The facility will also house intermediate-scale test systems that will be evaluated by DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative program. The campus will include cryo facilities, equipment labs, research spaces, and offices where private companies and universities can collaborate on quantum innovations.
PsiQuantum’s photonic approach to quantum computing leverages high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, existing cryogenic infrastructure, and standard telecom fiber networking to overcome traditional scaling challenges in manufacturability, cooling, and control systems.
This project positions Chicago as the global leader in quantum computing innovation while bringing thousands of high-tech jobs to the South Side. The IQMP campus will serve as a catalyst for quantum technology advancement, with applications spanning healthcare, defense, finance, and scientific research. EOS Mechanical’s expertise in complex, mission-critical mechanical systems makes them an essential partner in delivering this transformative infrastructure that will define the future of computing technology.
