Project Overview

EOS Mechanical served as the primary mechanical contractor for McHenry County College’s transformative Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (CATI), working alongside George Sollit Construction as general contractor. This state-of-the-art facility opened in fall 2024 to address the growing demand for skilled trades and technical education in northern Illinois.

About the Development

The Foglia Center represents a $22 million investment in workforce development, with 45,000 square feet of advanced classroom and laboratory space. The facility was primarily funded through Illinois’ Rebuild Illinois capital plan ($15.8 million), with significant contributions from the Foglia Family Foundation ($2.2 million) and McHenry County COVID-19 relief funds ($1.69 million). Named after former Sage Products Chairman Vince Foglia, the center addresses his longtime vision of developing local technical talent.

The facility houses nine specialized programs including Architectural and Engineering Design Technology, Automation and Robotics, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Precision Machining, and Welding. Designed to accommodate over 400 students with an expected 70 graduates annually, the center features cutting-edge equipment including robotic assembly systems, advanced welding stations, and precision manufacturing tools. The building also includes a community maker space and small business incubator to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

EOS Mechanical Scope

As the primary mechanical contractor, EOS Mechanical delivered comprehensive building systems for this technically demanding project:

  • Complete HVAC systems designed for diverse laboratory and workshop environments
  • Specialized ventilation systems for welding, machining, and fabrication areas
  • Industrial-grade plumbing systems supporting manufacturing equipment
  • Process piping for compressed air, coolant, and specialty gas distribution
  • Energy-efficient mechanical systems supporting advanced technology equipment
  • Integration with building automation systems for optimal environmental control
  • Installation coordination with sensitive electronic and robotic equipment

Project Significance

The Foglia Center addresses a critical skills gap in manufacturing and technology, providing hands-on training with equipment used by leading local employers like Stryker and General Kinematics. EOS Mechanical’s mechanical systems enable this vital educational mission, supporting the next generation of skilled trades professionals in the Chicago metropolitan region.
